In this episode, we speak with Kent Zimmermann about the rise of alternative legal service providers (AKA legal process outsourcing companies or LPOs). Alternative legal service providers, or ALSPs, help clients and their attorneys accomplish work that has historically handled by law firms, such as document review for electronic discovery, or due diligence contract review for corporate mergers and acquisitions.
The rise of these companies is in no small part due to advancements in legal technology permitting automation of routine tasks.
Kent also talks about law firm mergers. A topic he knows quite a bit about. Kent, although a lawyer, is a consultant for the Zeughauser Group, a consulting firm that helps law firms with strategic planning, management consulting, mergers, and marketing. Kent can be reached at zimmermann@consultzg.com.
